Neil Laws, Chairman of the Board of realestateVIEW.com.au welcomed Dan White’s appointment as a Non-Executive Director.

The appointment of Dan sees the realestateVIEW.com.au 6 Board seats now filled with 2 Ray White representatives with Trevor Booth, Director Ray White Ballarat and President REIV already holding a seat.

Why do I feel a Ray white takeover is in the horizon???
With two board seats taken by RW representatives it seems likely… How will this benefit realestateView???
If this is an industry owned real estate portal why would the current board allow RW to take two seats?
Well it’s obvious that technology is on the back of every franchisors mind therefore why wouldn’t a franchisor buy a real estate portal??? Wouldn’t they have a USP when signing up potential franchisees…? Pay a franchise fee then pay a membership to OUR real estate portal. Perfect.
And what’s wrong with that business model?
NOTHING, as long as the franchisees marketing expenses have been reduced and their enquiries have increased while taking away realestate.com.au
It’s possible as long as franchisors think out side the box and inside the tech box.

So where is the rest of the story . . . . Is this a good thing – what benefits will he bring to the table
. . . It is a good thing to have 2 Ray White people on the board
. . . will this effect the perceptions of some of the customers of Real Estate View
. . . are they happy that their competitors are influencing the direction of Real Estate View
It is great to know that a new director is joining the board of Real Estate View – but that is only the head line. Where is the rest of the stuff – the real meat & veggies.
I for one would be very interested in your opinion and those of other people.

If you’re asking whether there is anything further I’m holding back about this story then no I don’t know about the real meat and veggies. The information comes from a press release issued by REV.
My opinion is that REV had an opportunity to provide a Board seat to Dan White and jumped on this. I see its an opportunity for 2 reasons; for REV having a high profile personality helps with the creditability of REV and secondly, it could give REV access to the data for the Ray White network of 800 + offices.
Questions will be raised as to why there are 2 Board members from the one network group. But I don’t believe this is because Ray White is going to take a stake in REV, I think its a result of the opportunity to secure Dan. If Ray White was to take a stake in REV then this would be suicide for REV as it would create discontent amongst their non Ray White members.

Why would an agency pay:
$6,500 to build their own website
+ $2,500 pa to host it
+ $3,000pa for a CMS
+ the time to list on it
Then pay to advertise on a portal that just gets stronger because they have advertised on it!?
