Last week Domain announced their mobile apps have surpassed 1 million downloads and that 36 per cent of all Domain.com.au enquiries now come through mobile. They also indicate there have been more than 60 million individual page views through the apps in April, which is 100 per cent growth in the past six months.
Tony Blamey, General Manager, Real Estate for Fairfax Marketplaces said:
The Domain mobile apps are essential property-marketing tools in the 21st Century, and the real estate industry is leading in the take-up of mobile technology
As it becomes ever-more important to connect with clients in innovative ways, the Domain mobile apps allow agents to get their properties in front of more potential homebuyers and renters, as part of the multi-platform range of marketing tools from Domain.
Domain’s mobile apps have received a number of awards in the past including being named one of Apple’s top 25 free Australian iPad apps of all time in the Lifestyle section. Domain (and Fairfax) have invested heavily in mobile technology which is now beginning to payoff as users spend more and more time using handheld devices.

Now that is an interesting stat. VERY interesting.
Next question, who are the best people to use to build an app ?
Robert Simeon
What triggered this is of equal importance given the move from traditional (print) and online now look to be well and truly separating at a fast rate. Here is why:
If you cast your mind back to the recession of the early nineties (those that can) there was no internet where an agent was limited to trying to get whatever monies were available to place an advertisement in a newspaper.
Today, I say to agents imagine if your online business was disconnected for 3 months how do you think you would/could survive? Answer: I couldn’t I would go broke.
Since the introduction of iPads 1,2 and 3 a majority of consumers have also moved their mobile phones to better sync so they moved from say Blackberry (dumb phones) to an Apple iPhone (smart phones).
The introduction of the iPads (in my opinion) is what is fast tracking this and the percentages will only get greater.
It is very interesting to see how much leverage these devices are now getting.

Wow! That’s an interesting stat indeed. Great to see that someone else is getting a bigger bite of the online pie other than REA. I must say that I’m starting to get more and more inquiries from Domain. With some properties Domain actually outnumbers Realestate.com.au for inquiries. Considering the cost difference that does make it interesting indeed.

REA mobile app got its 1 millionth download in April according to http://discover.realestate.com.au/buying/property-on-the-go-app-downloads-reach-1-million
Pretty interesting given Domain had a six month head start on an iPhone app.

I can pretty much access any web site on the iPhone, what are the advantages of an app ?
Rhett Barron
People want to have a full rich media experience when visiting a website. They dont want some daggy website from the 90s! iPhone applications provide additional ways to enrich content above and beyond HTML5.
The key things is to measure content and compare it against the market. Those stats will support my above assertion.

Fair enough BUT I must say that I believe, people want information, clear and concise when visitiing a real estate web site, they dont want bells and whistles that slow things down, as they say….just give it to me straight. .
Googles new IPhone app is the best I’ve ever seen, it is actually very fast and works beautifully.
Usually when you get an update for an app it’s nothing but THIS ? well look for yourself.

Unbelievably despite buyers surveys revealing their desire for virtual tours and floorplans – both the domain and REA mobile apps dont allow a virtual tour/interactive floorplan link to be added.
FYI – Surroundplan virtual tours and interactive floorplans specifically WORK on iphone and ipads
(automatically detected and served at a lower resolution for faster download and formatted with no flash player)
Anybody suggest whom to raise this with on each of these entities?
