Google +1 Like button

< 1 minute read

Google has become a little bit more social with the launch of its +1 Like button available to be added to any website. This button allows web uses to recommend and share content with their networks, family and friends.

The button is similar to the facebook Like or Twitter Retweet buttons and is an attempt by Google to increase its presence on the web. The button can be seen on all Business2 posts.

Google Product Manager Nick Radicevic announced:

Adding the +1 button could help your site to stand out by putting personal recommendations right at the moment of decision, on Google search. So if you have users who are fans of your content, encourage them to add their voice with +1!

Google have also indicated that they may use +1 data as a signal for improving search results in the future.

To date I only know of one Australian real estate portal TheHomepage.com.au who have implemented the Google +1 like button across all of their property pages.

PropertyNow has also already arranged to implement it in the launch of our new site next week.

Naturally it will be open to easy abuse and as such it’s likely to be designed to have minimal impact within their serp algo.

Google Plus is also something to look out for. +1 is a integral part of it.

Think Facebook but very focussed on easy to use privacy controls. You can group your ‘friends’ in to circles. You share personal stuff with just your family and real estate news probably bores your family so you only share it with your work colleagues.

looks like a good idea, and a must for all real estate web sites, in much the same way ‘share on facebook’ and ‘tweet this property’ have become ubiquitous

    Hey Nick
I am actually a little excited about Google+ . It looks great, feels nice but will it grab the facebookers?

Google have to do it though, there is no choice…

Google+ looks really good. Here’s an interesting article about how it could be used in the workplace http://gigaom.com/collaboration/why-google-could-find-a-home-in-the-workplace/

    Hi Ryan,

Thanks for mentioning Thehomepage. I’ve +1’d it and shared it on Google+. I’m already addicted! It’ll be really interesting to see where Google+ will go.

Andy Del Vecchio I think it depends on how fast Google and Facebook move.

Right now Google needs to get it out to the public asap, and also release the API they are working on so devs can make games and those annoying Facebook apps. If they don’t do that quickly (a birdie in my ear says July 31st) then they will lose steam.

If Facebook counters quickly enough and adds the benefits Google+ has then they will win though because with a otherwise even playing field, 750 million accounts trumps a few thousand. Google+ is better feature wise at the moment though.

I also see Facebook has implemented Skype video. It is very good and probably a reason why users will stay anchored to Facebook. I can see the day approaching rapidly where consumers, clients etc will insist on live video interaction with those who wish to secure their business. Better get those teeth bleached and wrinkles botoxed.

It is on my todo list Robert.

Looking forward to testing Google+ lets hope it doesn’t end up like Google Wave did!

    My thoughts here http://www.atominsight.com/about-us/blog/google-plus1

Clearly lots of benefits for the webmaster, but what’s in it for the punter?

Google announced a few weeks ago its version of the Facebook “Like” button, a search results tool called plus one.”
