One must be impressed by the pace in which realestate.com.au moves when a threat (minor or not) rears its head.
In this case it is mapping.
Realestate.com.au have now upgraded their mapping system to be included in search results and I must say whilst it is not perfect, it is pretty darn good.
One thing I can say is that Domain.com.au (whilst the first of the majors to do this) must now continue to develop their mapping solution.
Realestate.com.au‘s solution includes all of the properties from your search, so if you searched a wide area it includes all o the listings from the one pop up. This is the first time I have seen anyone do this and it is impressive.
Domain have included Sold listings on a map and this too is a great feature and one that may upset realestate.com.au‘s plans to sell this information to consumers.
The only problems I see with recent sales data is the accuracy of these results as I know many agents just put approximates in their sales results and the fact that I wonder how it is monitored as many vendors do not like this information made public.
Domain‘s information however does not come from their system, but from homepriceguide.com.au and I am sure realestate.com.au will want to do the same but keep it in-house, or purchase one of the many of these types of businesses on the market.
Before the end of the year we will see more portals hit the Australian market including realmap.com.au which is still far ahead of these services offered by the portals – the only thing they cannot match is content and I for on are hoping that agents will embrace their model…

Hi Carey, I know Domain.com.au were first to introduce this from the major portals perspective.
I have no shares in realestate.com.au and none in any of the major portals.
However my point was the scolling list of properties in a certain area, which domain.com.au do not do. I thought it was a good initiative, however if I sound like I am favouring realestate.com.au over domain.com.au I can assure you I am not…..
In fact from an agents point of view it is important that domain.com.au remain a strong and vibrant competitor…and in my humble opinion they are slipping.
Please feel free to comment again and thank you. I have been wrong many times before and will be many times again, however if I am wrong I will correct any mistake I have made that is brought to my attention.

Interesting reading as usual. I would like to point out that at this point in time realestate.com.au has no plans to sell sold data to consumers. We do offer on the site, as an advertising only arrangement, data reports from RP Data but that is all. These reports are not prepared by realestate.com.au.
I would also like to point out that sold data is available on the site in the sold data section.

Am probably in the wrong place for this, I am trying to find out how Google decides what streets to mark yellow on its street maps. My street Southerden Avenue Grange (Brisbane) is marked in yellow, but it is not a through road to anywhere nor is it a bus route. Days Road continues the bus route and most of the traffic around Progress Parade and out onto Raymont Road and is just shown as a suburban street. Can this be corrected if it is a mapping error? If anyone can direct me to someone who would be in the slightest bit interested please do.
